Alberta Cocktail Challenge winner Dominik Aschauer has created a new summer cocktail list at Cilantro that captures the essence of summer love. Aschauer has focused his list around exotic tiki and sensual sips; however, don’t expect a pina colada or sex on the beach type cocktail on the menu.
“Each cocktail on this list is made to highlight the moments when you are on vacation in an exotic location with your partner,” says Aschauer, Bartender at Cilantro. “I wanted to capture that sensual feeling of love and bring it back to Calgary in the form of a cocktail.”
Kicking off the list is Bitter is Bella, which is a play on a bellini – minus the slush. House made Okanagan peach nectar is mixed with Averna in the bottom of a sparkling glass, topped off with prosecco and garnished with an orange twist. The bitterness of the Averna balances out the sweet peach nectar.
Adam Wants Eve is a play on a whiskey sour that features dark horse whiskey, oolong tea, apple meringue and muddled blueberries.
Inspired from the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire, The Desperado combines Berta Amaretto, a Spanish amaretto, and Cazadores Tequila, a Mexican tequila. Agave nectar, orange bitters and Indonesian cinnamon complete this cocktail.
The Tobacco Vanilla cocktail is based off of two popular commodities from the South – tobacco and vanilla. Pear puree, wild flower honey, fig jam, and house spiced rum meld together and give off a sticky, spicy aroma.
The Parisian Geisha highlights the sensual nature of this list with a house made damiana tea syrup that has relaxing and libido enhancing properties. Woodford Reserve Bourbon is paired with the damiana tea syrup, fresh raspberries and lavender bitters. The cocktail is garnished with edible rose petals, which makes it scream romance.
Come at Me Bro transports you to a bar stool in the back of a tiki lounge where individuals are sipping rum and snacking on bar nuts. Sous Chef Josh Cocca has created cardamom-honey bar nuts that are served alongside 2 ounces of Diplomatico rum in a sniffer glass. It’s a simple, no muss, no fuss type of cocktail.
