If there’s anything better than being nestled in the heart of 17th Avenue in Calgary’s Beltline, it’s having the opportunity to share an inner-city oasis on your special day with friends and family!
Whether you’re planning a Christmas party, summer patio wedding or intimate event, we welcome you into Cilantro with open arms. Our homely but vibrant space is yours to transform into an inviting setting with a seating capacity of 60 and space for a cocktail stand-up reception of 100.
This summer we welcomed Lauren Elder to our Events Team. Originally joining our family as a server, Lauren is now an integral part of our events team, streamlining the planning stage with a keen eye for detail and fantastic organization skills to ensure your special day runs like clockwork.
Hi Lauren, thanks for sitting down and giving us a chance to share more about you and the journey with us at Cilantro! How did you first learn about the restaurant and what drew you to working here?
I first learned about Cilantro through a friend who’s worked here for many years. He always talked about what a great place it is and how friendly the staff are. I loved the idea of being a part of a well-oiled machine and teaming up with hard working and enthusiastic people, I also fell head over heels with the homey interior and secluded patio – it’s a beautiful setting!
Why do you think Cilantro makes a good event space?
I definitely think the main draw to Cilantro is the atmosphere, it is such a beautiful space and it’s so inviting. Having great food and such an extensive selection of wine definitely helps too! I can’t forget to mention the staff we have also, they make every event run smoothly and go out of their way to make guests feel welcome. So many things about Cilantro make it the perfect choice for that special event.
What do you enjoy most about the team, particularly when it comes to events?
Collectively we treat each event with care as if it’s our own family hosting. From remembering guests’ names to knowing our products so well that suggesting a certain wine is a breeze. I can’t help but feel like we have the friendliest team around! Working with people to plan their special day is a really rewarding task.
What do you enjoy doing on your days off, do you have any hobbies?
Most of my spare time is spent with family and friends, whether it is playing board games, watching Netflix, playing with my friends’ dogs or just simply enjoying conversation – it is always a pleasure to spend time with the important people in my life. When I find myself having a little alone time I like to get creative – I try to paint when the opportunity comes!
What’s your number one piece of advice to anyone planning an event in Downtown Calgary?
Fall in love with the space you choose! It’s easy to get wrapped up in the corporate side of life being Downtown, but at Cilantro, we’re lucky enough to have an outdoor patio that really makes you feel like you’re secluded in a backyard.
What is your favorite thing about working in this industry?
I love that each day is different and exciting in its own way, and you never have the same conversation twice. I also love being immersed in the social aspect, being around people as opposed to spending my time alone sitting at a desk!
